The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate work with many dedicated people in the ministry. Over the past few years, through the Partners in Mission (PIM) program, the Australian province has expanded the range of service to include foreign mission as well. This program offers people who identify with the spirit of St. Eugene de Mazenod and the Congregation he founded the opportunity to work as part of the Oblate mission in China. Those who qualify have the chance to develop their own faith and by helping others and living in praying community.
Since 2008, 10 people have served as part of the China mission. Some have served with the Oblate schools in Hong Kong. All ten in one way or another have assisted in ministries such as teaching conversational English and working with sick and abandoned young children. Teaching English is a practical assistance to the Oblate presence in China that also provides the students with better opportunities in later life. You do need neither to be a trained teacher nor to speak the native language. But you do need be daring enough to let the love God work through you and share it with those in need.
